Modern skills laboratory equipment enables the academic staff to offer a competence based curriculum that meets the reproductive health needs of the clients. The department has proved to be a useful platform for consultancy and research activities to assist the Zambian government through the General Nursing Council of Zambia to shape the midwifery training and practice. It also offers technical support and capacity building to other institutions of higher education in implementation of innovative ways of teaching midwifery skills through simulation and clinical assessments using Objective Structured Clinical examinations.
