Welcome to the Department of Demography, Population Sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation. The University of Zambia, Department of Demography, Population Sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation, is the largest and leading institution in training in demography in Zambia. Our training programmes include the Bachelor of Arts in Demography, the Master of Arts in Population Studies, PhD in Population Studies and the Postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation. In addition, the Department runs a Centre of Excellence in Monitoring and Evaluation which offers high-level skills design and implementation of planning, monitoring and evaluation.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Demography, Population Sciences, Monitoring and Evaluation was established on 28th March 2011 taking over from the Demography Division which was established in 1986, Under the Department of Social Development Studies with UNFPA support. The Department is made up of 15 dedicated members of staff with enormous research and training experience.
The Department has so far produced over 1000 Demographers with interdisciplinary orientations. The department boasts unparalleled experience in conducting research from a wide array of sectors. It was primarily responsible for carrying out the 1992 Demographic and Health Survey (ZDHS), the 1995 IEC baseline survey for the Zambia Family Planning Services Project and the 1999 Maternal Mortality Study executed by the Central Board of Health (CBoH). It was also involved in the ZDHS of 1996, 2001-2002, and 2007, 2013-14 and 2018. It has worked closely with CSO and other partners to execution population and Housing censuses and large-scale surveys such as the Living Conditions and Monitoring Survey(LCMS), Zambia Population-based HIV Impact Assessment( ZAMPHIA), Health and well –being of children survey (H-WELL) Case-based Surveillance. It has implemented large-scale projects such as case-based surveillance and monitoring of the Saving Mothers Giving Life initiative (SMGL). Since 2007, the department has had a cooperative agreement between the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) amounting to over eight million USD. To date, it has established extensive links and collaborations with other universities outside the country and organisations within and outside the country.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
The Monitoring and Evaluation Centre of Excellence was established in 2006 through technical Support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and MEASURE Evaluation to;
Offer Monitoring and Evaluation and Data Analysis training in Zambia.
Conduct Evaluation and Research activities to support evidence of public and private sector investments in Zambia.
The UNZA M&E CoE has partnered with a number of international and local organisations to offer customised M&E and data analysis capacity building initiatives and information systems strengthening.
Zambia Monitoring and Evaluation Association (ZaMEA) Collaboration to organize M&E eventsand M&E conduct trainings.
MEASURE Evaluation- University of North Carolina Collaboration to strengthen staff capacity building and design Survey Data analysis using STATA course.
