Dr. Mwenya joined the university as a lecturer of Animal Breeding in April 1989. He then proceeded to become Head of Animal Science Department and Dean of School of Agricultural Sciences, in 1985 and 1986 respectively. In 2006, he was appointed as Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Zambia, where he served in that capacity until 2012. He resumed teaching duties in 2013, and currently teaches undergraduate courses (Introduction to Agricultural Statistics, Experimental Design & Statistics, Principles of Genetics, and Animal Breeding) and postgraduate courses (Biostatistics and Statistics & Experimentation). Prior to his work at the University of Zambia, he served in various administrative capacities such as; Director to the Science and Technology Department from 1995 - 2000, and Executive Secretary for the National Science and Technology council from 2000 - 2006. His current research interest areas include Phenotypic and Genetic Characterization of Farm Animal Genetic Resources.
