Research
The Department of Chemistry currently has three active areas of research. These are:
- Environment,
- Sustainable Energy
- Medicinal Chemistry.
Current research on the environment is focused on evaluation of heavy metal contamination in mining areas whilst research in sustainable energy is centered on the development of novel organic photovoltaic cells and bio-fuels.
Medicinal Chemistry research is focused on screening of selected indigenous plants for medical applications (antimicrobial, antiviral and others), validation of Zambian traditional medicines and identification of their bioactive ingredients.
