The University of Zambia (UNZA) senior members of staff participated in a capacity-building training programme called Our Right, Our Lives, Our Future (O3 Plus) Building Capacity organised by UNESCO on February 28, 2024, at Twangale Park in Chilanga.
This initiative focused on 11 higher and tertiary education institutions in Zambia including UNZA, Copperbelt University, Chalimbana University, Nkrumah University and Mukuba University. This project aims at empowering students with information to achieve positive health, education, and gender equality outcomes. UNZA, along with other institutions, formed clusters to collaborate and share best practices.
The O3 Plus Project rests on four pillars:
- Institutional strengthening for sustainability
- Student health and well-being
- Safe and inclusive campus environment
- Evidence-building and knowledge-sharing
By strengthening institutional management, like at UNZA, the project aims to achieve sustained reductions in new HIV infections, unintended pregnancies, and gender-based violence among university students. UNESCO acknowledges UNZA's vital role in this endeavour and expressed gratitude for its commitment to student well-being.
