Call for Applications for PhD Scholarships in Climate Change & Sustainability Education for the 2023/2024 Academic Year
The University of Zambia (UNZA), through the School of Education, is one of the five consortium partners (FAO, UNITAR, CBU, and UNESCO) in the FACE-NDC Project 2023 to 2030, with FAO as the lead partner and the International Climate Initiative (IKI) from Germany as principal funder. As one of its focus areas, FACE-NDC Project aims to provide Masters and Ph.D. training scholarships. The thematic areas of applied research shall be situated within education and shall include, but not be limited to the following themes such as:
- Climate Change Education & Action;
- Greening School and College Infrastructure;
- Behavioral Science and Social-Cultural Norms;
- Reorienting & greening Teacher Education towards sustainability;
- Pedagogies & Technologies for environmental education and sustainability.

Eligibility
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Environmental Education, Climate Change, Geography, Environmental Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, GIS, ICT and Programming, Psychology- Sociology – Philosophy, Science Education, Curriculum or related field from a recognized university.
- A Masters Degree in a field related to climate change, Environmental Education, Geography, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, GIS, ICT and Programming, Teacher Education, Educational Administration and Policy, psychology-Sociology-Philosophy, Science Education, Curriculum or a related field from a recognised University
- Be a Zambian with a valid National Registration Card
- Willing to participate in other activities related to the FACE – NDC Project and participate in teaching.

Scholarship coverage
The scholarship will cover:
- Tuition fees for three years
- Monthly stipend
- Book allowances
- Funding for field research activities
Application and selection process
The applicants shall submit: their CVs and a cover letter stating why they are interested in being awarded with the scholarship under the FACE- NDC Project. Afterwards, a shortlisting shall be done followed by an aptitude test and oral interviews for the last 6 applicants. The last 6 shortlisted candidates shall undergo a mini-training and be assigned to prepare research proposals.
