Network and Software Support is a technical department in CICT comprising of three sections:
- Telecommunication,
- Information and Communications Technology support and
- Networking.
NSS is responsible for the support and maintenance of IT infrastructure in the university.
The IT infrastructure refers to the composite hardware, software, network resources, and services required for the existence, operation, and management of the university IT environment.
Structure of NSS and IT Services Offered
Network Engineering Services
- Managing the university's Internet and internal network across the Main campus, Institute of Distance Education, Ridgeway Campus, and provincial centers.
- Installing and maintaining fibre network from the Main server room at CICT to various teaching buildings, campuses, and provincial centers.
- Maintaining and supporting the network which is mainly based on Cisco switches.
- Installing and maintaining Eduroam Services in the student hostels, using a mixture of access points, Wavion, Ruckus, Unifi, etc
Telecommunication Services
- Maintaining campus internal telecoms system (PBX)
- Supporting and maintaining Zamtel telecommunications infrastructure within UNZA.
ICT Support Services:
- Serving as a first point of contact for staff through the service desk.
- Offering general ICT support services to ensure the day-to-day smooth running of equipment and use.
- Providing first-level support for services such as eLearning (Moodle) and eduroam.
- Providing ICT Support services to students through the Library Basement Computer laboratory on services such as Moodle, Eduroam, etc.
- Managing server infrastructure (physical and virtual).
- Providing support for some critical infrastructure/Services including Domain Names System (DNS), Moodle eLearning, Student Information System, Payroll, etc.
