The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Education offers a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. The overall objective of the programme is to provide a rigorous, stimulating and enjoyable training in agricultural economics and quantitative and qualitative research techniques. The knowledge and skills offered through the programme equip students to function as professionals in research, policy analysis and management, and also enhance their chances of being admitted to PhD programmes.
Applicants are eligible for admission as candidate for the degree of Master of Science in Agricultural Economics if they:
- Have been admitted to the degree of Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural Economics with credit or better from the University of Zambia or another recognised university;
- Possess qualifications deemed equivalent to the degree of Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural Economics with credit or better;
- Have had three years of experience after receiving the degree of Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural Economics; or otherwise
- Satisfy the University Senate of their ability to pursue postgraduate studies in their fields.
Notwithstanding the eligibility criteria (1) to (4) above, the School, at the request of the department may require applicants, as a condition for admission to the master’s programme to take a pre-requisite course or qualifying examination at the discretion of the Board of Studies, subject to approval of Senate.
