The University of Zambia (UNZA) delegation to the United States of America led by Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Anne Sikwibele, held an introductory meeting and courtesy call on the President of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr James Hildreth on 11th November 2022. Previously, the two Institutions have collaborated in a limited manner with specific Schools at the UNZA Ridgeway Campus. Following bilateral discussions between the two Institutions, it was agreed that they forge new and wider collaboration in joint research, training and fundraising.
Meharry Medical College is currently working with the Ministry of Health and Lusaka Provincial Health Office as part of the consortium of four black medical schools namely Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU), Los Angeles, California; Howard University School of Medicine, Washington, DC (HU); and Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), Atlanta, Georgia who have won a US$46 Million grant to Leverage Health Service Equity Approaches for Sustainable HIV Epidemic Control in Zambia and Malawi. In the first year of the project, US$8 million has been allocated to the project with US$6 million to cover Zambia and US$2 million to cover Malawi.
